Can I put a creme gloss colour over already highlighted hair?

I get highlights every eight weeks, most of my hair is highlighted but my natural hair colour is still underneath. To save time and money, I was thinking I could use a product like loreal casting creme gloss in a blonde shade every second time or so and get my highlights done in-between. Since its not a permenent colour could l do that or would it stuff up my hair?
