Liberal Democrat Herbert Gears donated $1000 to Eddie Bernice Johnson, why?

I'm assuming Herbert Gears is a liberal democrat since he donated that much money to one of the most liberal and crooked politicians in America. How else could one explain why Herbert Gears donated money to this democrat?
