Do i wear foundation and creme face powder together ?

when ever i do my make up it looks horrible ! i have got some new foundation rimmel 25 hour foundation and the rimmel creme face powder :) do i wear them together ? what is the best way to put it on and how much should i use ? i want it to look Natural and Professional but i still want people to be able to tell i am wearing make up. btw the Color i use is ivory if that has got anything to do with anything. :)
