How long would it take to learn C++ & How do I get there?

Here's a crazy idea: Go through the book you have, THEN figure out where to go, because if you actually make use of it, then you'll probably have a much better idea. After a certain point, you learn by making things with it. As for a time estimate, well, you should be able to have the basics covered over summer at least, but it'll probably take over a year or two to become proficient with it.
